Latest News from the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation

Oct 05 2021

Dear Member Countries of the Commonwealth, Dear Friends,

I am delighted to forward to you this attached document from the Commonwealth Games Federation.  This is the revised Athlete Allocation System for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games

I am also delighted to see that the IWF and the CGF have approved the five IWF recognised Continental Competitions as qualifying events for the Birmingham games.  These five events must be held in 2022 from the 1st January to the end of February – which is the end of the ranking period.

The C.W.F.  is enormously grateful to the IWF for their understanding and support during this unpredictable time of the pandemic.   Obviously a special thanks must also go to the Commonwealth Games Federation for their consideration in these circumstances.  We appreciate that they have considered the additional five IWF recognised Continental Competitions (Oceania, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Pan America) in 2022 in order to give those lifters of the Commonwealth the opportunity to qualify in their own region in the final stages of the ranking period.

In addition to this, we are hugely appreciative to the CGF and the IWF for accepting the results of 2021 Oceania Senior Championships. Further we thank the IWF  for allowing and agreeing to the Commonwealth Senior Championships to be held conjunction with the World Senior Championships and making provision for the British home nations, and the Crown Dependencies and those BOTs whereby the jurisdiction lies with British Weightlifting to compete in Tashkent.

I look forward to see you all in Tashkent in December during the  World Senior Championships / Commonwealth Senior Championships.

Kindest regards

Paul
