The Australian Institute of Sport has approved $193,140 in Pathway Solutions Grant funding over the next two years to support activities designed to develop young athletes entering the AWF Performance Pathway.
AWF Performance Pathway Manager Greg Hobl said that he is very pleased that the AIS has supported the AWF’s funding application and that this AIS Performance Pathway Solutions Grant will allow the AWF to:
- confirm and develop talented athletes through the continuation of the Performance Pathway Squad Camp Program;
- enhance the competition readiness of Performance Pathway Squad athletes via international competition experiences; and
- support coaching development strategies that will enable targeted coaches to participate in AWF Performance Pathway Squad training camps and specialised coach development workshops.
The AWF Performance Pathway Squad consists of up to 15 athletes and is reviewed on a 6 monthly basis. Pathway Squad Athletes must:
- Be at least 13 years of age.
- Be an Australian citizen.
- Attend regular training sessions under the guidance of an AWF qualified coach.
- Achieve at least 90% of AWF G Grade standard
- Not already be categorised in the AWF Youth or Junior Squad
- Be eligible to compete in the Youth age group (17 and under)
The current AWF Performance Pathway Squad is made up of the following athletes:
