2021 AWF National Senior Championships

Nov 29 2021

The 2021 AWF National Senior Championships concluded on Sunday evening after three days of competition. Following the cancellation of last year’s “Nationals” due to COVID-19, the AWF was determined to deliver the championships in 2021 by the best means possible and so it was decided to conduct the event online with lifters participating from competition hubs in each state, and Technical Officials logged-in from various locations around the country.

Rowes Furniture company kindly provided a large air-conditioned room within their retail complex at Toowoomba City and the AWF filled the space with the necessary equipment to create “Weightlifting Central” for the duration of the event.

Eighty-two competitors participated in the championships and twenty Technical Officials performed their duties online over the event’s thirteen competition sessions. In addition to the online T.O.s, each competition hub had a Technical Official onsite to supervise the weigh-in and act as Technical Controller during the competition. Each state received one-third of the entry fees paid by their state’s competitors to assist with the cost of running state competition hubs.

Despite some hiccups, the technology lived up to expectations and the competition ran well, overall. The best three performers in each bodyweight category will recieve championship medals; and the top three women and top three men in the Sinclair ranking will receive prizemoney in the amounts of $500 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, and $100 for 3rd.
