The AWF is saddened to learn of the recent passing of a distinguished past Australian and Victorian Weightlifter, Mr Daryl Cohen.
Daryl died on 04 March 2016, regretfully the AWF office did not become aware of this until Michael Noonan respectfully forwarded a copy of the attached obituary that appeared recently in THE AGE newspaper.
Daryl was a member of Australia's team at the 1958 Cardiff British Empire & Commonwealth Games, placing seventh in the then 75kg ('Middleweight') category.
He also represented Australia at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games (again at 75kg), gaining seventeen place.
Daryl was Australian Champion in the 75kg category in both 1958 and 1960. In 1958 his younger brother Trevor also won a National Championship - in the 60kg ('Featherweight') category.
Our deepest condolences extend to Daryl’s family and friends during this difficult time.
