Masters weightlifting provides opportunities for athletes, aged 35+, to compete at local, national or international level.
The Australian Masters Weightlifting scene has flourished in recent years with growing numbers of older males and females continuing weightlifting as a lifelong activity or commencing the sport for the first time.
Every state has regular Masters competitions. There is a yearly AWF National Masters Championships and IWF World Masters Championship.
AWF accredited coaches are receptive to introducing newcomers to the sport and many Australian Masters lifters have gone on to represent Australia at the World Masters Championships and World Masters Games.
